This radio is usually mounted to a vehicle but can also be setup as a desktop radio in the office with the MB-SMS cabinet and PSU 1210 power supply sold separately.

To install this radio in a vehicle the hanger kit (supplied) needs to be fixed to the vehicle. The IC-A120 is then installed in the hanger kit. The radio must be then wired to the vehicle accessory power supply. This may require an auto electrician or auto mechanic but is not overly difficult for the mechanically minded.

The coaxial cable is supplied with the antenna kit (sold separately). The coaxial cable connects the antenna and the radio together. The coaxial cable must be fed through the firewall of the vehicle and as such the UHF connector at the RADIO end of the coaxial cable must be soldered to the coaxial cable after it has been passed through the firewall. Once again this may require the use of an auto electrician or mechanic if the person is not mechanically minded or does not know how to use a soldering iron.

The IC-A120 has excellent range when compared to the IC-A15 and should be a definite installation in an ARO vehicle working at a controlled aerodrome. It is optional… but highly recommended that the uncontrolled airports have at least one vehicle dedicated to airport ARO duties and this vehicle should be equipped with an IC-A120.
