About the Course

Our Nationally Recognised wildlife course has been designed to provide participants with the comprehensive skills and knowledge required to implement wildlife hazard control measures in alignment with relevant regulatory requirements and national operating standards at their aerodrome.  Our trainers are subject matter experts in this area with current and extensive backgrounds in airport management.

This course is:

  • mapped to the AVIW0023 Implement wildlife hazard management control measures unit of competency
  • meets the requirements of Part 139 Manual of Standards 17.07, as well as
  • CASA Advisory Circular AC139.C-02 Aerodrome Personnel (3.2.2 – Reporting Officer (ARO)).

Topics covered in this course include:

  • wildlife identification,
  • key legislation relating to wildlife management,
  • assessing wildlife hazards and managing the risks,
  • reporting procedures, and
  • record keeping requirements.

Course Duration

Our AVIW0023 Implement wildlife hazard management control measures course runs for 2 full days. The first day will be in a classroom environment, with the 2nd day being held at a live aerodrome to conduct practical assessment activities.

Course Entry Requirements

This course is not recommended for individuals that are new to the industry:

It is important to note that this course is assessed at AQF Level 3 (Certificate III). During the course participants will be required to:

  • Complete “standard” workplace forms and documentation
  • Read course materials and understand verbal information provided throughout the course
  • Reading and writing for theory assessments
  • Perform basic math calculations.
  • Communicate with small groups for group activities
  • Carry out physical activities such as light manual handling tasks and “walking the aerodrome”.

Course applicants will need to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy assessment prior to attending the course. This will be sent at enrolment.

Course Assessment Requirements

The course content will be delivered in a blended format. Course participants will receive their own comprehensive AMS Wildlife Handbook to reference during the course, and to keep for future reference.  Theoretical assessment modules and practical activities will be completed during the two-days of the course.

AMS take a ‘no-surprises’ approach to all assessment activities. Each assessment will be explained to each participant prior to taking place, and course participants will have the opportunity to ask questions prior to the assessment taking place. Our trainers will provide additional training and support where required, as per the AMS Learner Agreement.

Certification
